Wood is used worldwide for its warm, natural properties. Shrinkage of garden timber cannot be stopped, because it is based on moisture content. Our suppliers’ planers are always adjusted to the indicated size.
Boards can shrink or swell, depending on the weather. This also depends on when the trees are felled—in a wet or dry period.
With log cabins, the wood usually swells, because it is planed after drying. When exposed to the outside air, the wood absorbs moisture from the air and expands. A board can shrink or swell up to 5.98 mm, or about 3 mm per board.
