Caldura Wood is an environmentally friendly wood product with high durability but more economical than tropical hardwood. Caldura Wood is thermally modified wood. In this environmentally friendly process, sustainably sourced softwood (with PEFC certificate) is heated to around 200 degrees in an oxygen-free environment without the addition of chemicals. During the thermal modification process, the cell structure of the wood changes, making the wood significantly more resistant to wood rot and fungi.
In addition to a high durability to the core, Caldura Wood has more important advantages such as;
- Lightweight
- Stays in shape
- Low moisture content
- Minimal moisture absorption
Because the thermally modified changes the cell structure of the wood, the original strength properties of the wood also decrease. This means that Caldura Wood can only be used for non-structural applications, such as wall cladding and garden fences.
Caldura Wood falls under durability class 2 and can be used outdoors without any surface treatment. However, please note that in this case the wood will age quite quickly. If you do not want this, you can treat the wood with paint or a similar product.
In addition, this type of wood is easy to process with HSS or carbide tools.
The unique Swedish and overhanging rabbet are screwable.
